Hi,
I’m Meghan – an avid traveler, foodie and biochemist. For a long time, I’ve been a bit obsessed with plants. Because plants can’t run away or fight like animals, they have evolved many natural chemicals to keep them safe. For example, the antioxidants and antimicrobial compounds in plants which protect them from fungi infections. These same plant compounds can help us humans treat many diseases.
Considering this, it’s no surprise that 40% of medicines come from plants and 25% come from rainforest plants. Yet, there are still thousands of medicinal plants which aren’t well-known in the Western world. I’ve made it my mission to search out these plants and chronical them, hence “Superfood Journal.”
As I travel around the world, I visit indigenous communities and ask them about their local medicinal plants and how they use them. This is how I came to discover amazing plants like guayusa, cupuacu, and atractylodes (to name just a few).
If you want to get in touch, you can reach me at: superfoodjournal (at) gmail (dot) com.
Best,
Meghan
